2026 Midterm Elections
Good day, USA. Good day, world.
Conclusively and comprehensively, last night Americans voted in opposition to the division, corruption, mismanagement, and incompetence of the current administration.
But these midterm elections weren’t a rejection of conservatism. They were a revolt against Trumpism.
There are a lot of republicans now who regret that their only reaction to Donald Trump since he was elected the first time in 2016, but especially since 2024, has been to genuflect. House Speaker Mike Johnson, who announced early this morning that he will not run for minority in the new Congress after it became clear Democrats would take control of the House in January, is among the worst of the bunch. Johnson, who operated as a puppet of the president, holding extreme ideological positions as a proponent of white Christian nationalism, presided proudly over a do-nothing Congress, and prioritized protecting his master over national interests, is the embodiment of the cowardice these midterms were a rebuke of.
Though Texas doesn’t make history, ending more than three decades of unbroken Republican dominance, without moderates and reasonable pre-Trump GOP members who value procedural civility, bipartisan compromise, and believe that elected officials commit to serving the public and the nation, not themselves.
So come the fuck on, Republicans. Push MAGA out once and for all. Show the nation the fever has finally broken and put forth real contenders for office. The country needs strong public servants on both sides of the political spectrum to run properly. I’ve always contended that MAGA has always been the real party of the RINO. Please, prove me right.
And Democrats, do not screw this up. Lead with common sense; challenge misguided populist ideologies when necessary. If Democratic policies skew to the extreme left, Trumpism and MAGA will survive. People have a short memory. Come 2028, don’t give them a reason to vote for the next authoritarian would-be ruler.
Anyway, it’s a very good day, and a bottle of vintage Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs is calling my name. Here’s to the tide, hopefully, turning.
